About

Deborah (Debi) Stoness is a  Canadian artist celebrated for her elegant line drawings, delicate watercolours, and the whimsical comic series Karma the Kat. Her work is distinguished by its minimalist beauty, fluid movement, and a profound reverence for nature.

From an early age, Debi demonstrated a deep passion for the arts. Her dedication and talent earned her a place among a select group of just 14 students accepted into an intensive secondary school program devoted almost entirely to the arts. Over four immersive years, she explored disciplines ranging from photography to art history, building a strong foundation in commercial art. She later advanced her creative and technical skills through studies in Interior Design and Drafting at Algonquin College in Ottawa.

Debi’s intricate line drawings capture the spirit of animals through a minimalist lens, using flowing lines to evoke texture, depth, and movement. Each piece invites viewers to discover the quiet beauty within the natural world.

In her watercolours, Debi embraces a restrained palette and fluid brushwork, crafting harmonious compositions that evoke peace, serenity, and a deep connection to nature. Her paintings are poetic tributes to the fleeting beauty of the world around us, brought to life through the luminous qualities of the watercolour medium.

Debi is also the creator of Karma the Kat, a charming comic series that began as a collection of sketches and blossomed into a collaborative exploration of storytelling. The character of Karma, a fanciful and endearing creature, sprang from Debi’s vivid imagination and continues to evolve through her art.

Through her diverse body of work, Debi Stoness invites viewers to pause, reflect, and reconnect with the intricate beauty of the natural world — celebrating the creatures, landscapes, and quiet moments that so often go unnoticed.
